Boston’s . . .
easy on the taste buds, easy on the wallet
Boston’s is a restaurant/sports bar just north of the Veterans 24 Theater, making dinner and a movie easy, all the way around. I know it’s a so-called “chain restaurant,” but to George and me, it’s new. Four college alumni groups — Tennessee, Clemson, Iowa and Georgia Tech — claim it as sports-watching Heaven, so you know Boston’s must be doing something right.
One night after our movie, we just had drinks and nachos, but these nachos are really great. Usually, you just get a pile of chips with something like Cheez-Whiz and mystery meat slathered on. These nachos are individually crafted, sort of like baby pizzas, with cheddar, mozzarella, black beans, black olives, tomatoes and jalapeno on top, sour cream and salsa for dipping. A platter big enough for two is $8.29. Add taco beef or spicy chicken for $2.29 more, steak for $2.79, guacamole, $1.69. Still a steal !

The next time at Boston’s George had the Reuben with seasoned fries for $8.99. I ordered a 3-course special for $13.49. There were several choices, but mine were 1.) Caesar Salad, 2.) a halforder of Spicy Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo, and 3.) Apple Crisp with ice cream. The salad and dessert I shared with George All of those items are on the menu, but just salad and dessert would be $13. So this is a deal. Managing Partner Tony Regas says the special was so popular they’re repeating it in January.

But don’t wait to try Boston’s. Only one menu item is more than $20, and that’s the large pizza, 15" of deliciousness. The pizzas, are, of course, a must for a sports bar, but these are masterpieces. Available in four sizes, there are over a dozen selections, some on gluten-free crusts. Among the unusual…the BLT, The Flying Buffalo and the vegetarian Florentine, with spinach, artichokes and other good stuff., $7.99 to $23.99
You are invited to create your own pizza, with scads of toppings available. Likewise, you can create your own gourmet pasta, but who’d need to with such choices as Baked Shrimp Scampi over spaghetti, Jambalaya Fettuccini, and Cheese Ravioli with Shrimp and Rosemary-Chipotle Sauce. Prices range from $9.99 to $14.79.
Next week my Lunch Bunch is going to Boston’s. We’ll have a selection of eight salads to choose from, including the new Steak and Bleu, greens, bleu cheese dressing, grilled steak, dried cranberries, pecans, bacon, red onions, tomatoes and bleu cheese crumbles, $10.49, the most expensive on the menu. An interesting Spinach and Cranberry Starter Salad, with mushrooms, red onions, candied pecans and Feta cheese in citrus cranberry vinaigrette is the least expensive, at $4.99, and would probably satisfy most luncheon salad eaters.
For lunch we might also pick from the extensive sandwich and burger menu, which includes two Calzones, the Mama Meata, $8.49 or The Flying Buffalo, $7.99. Fish Tacos, $9.29, sound yummy, and so does the Grilled Ham, Cheese and Tomato, $6.79. All sandwiches come with fries.
If you’re weight-watching, you can go straight to Healthy Hits, 8 meals under 650 calories and 15g of fat. Of course, there are also 8 traditional classics here, including Chicken Piccata, $10.99, and Tuscan Sirloin, $16.49.
And so we come to six incredibly irresistible desserts, only the Apple Crisp we’ve tasted. There’s Hot Brandy Cream Pie and Chocolate Brownie Addiction, and more, most of them around six dollars.

Well, there you have it, diners. I promised you good food at modest prices. But I saved the best bargain for last! At Boston’s, if such things matter to you, it’s Happy Hour all the time.
