University of Maryland, is the Founder and President of the Alliance for Responsible Cuba Policy Foundation, a nonprofit organization formerly based in Washington, DC, and now headquartered in Tampa, Florida. The Alliance was founded in November 1998 to re-establish trade and diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba. Through his work with the Alliance, he has made more than 100 legal visits to Cuba in the past seventeen years, under the belief we should interact with the Cuban government as it is, not as we wish it to be. These visits have included nine meetings with former President Fidel Castro, President Raul Castro, numerous meetings with the highest ranking Cuban officials and visits to homes of ordinary Cuban citizens.
