ART LECTURE SERIES: DEPICTIONS OF LOVE Presented by artist Mary Ellen Bitner at the Cultural Center
When: Thursday, February 18 at 6 p.m.
Love, the most powerful of human emotions has been an enduring subject of visual art. How do artists depict this intangible and mysterious feeling? In honor of St. Valentine's Day, we will examine some iconic images of love in Western Art, from Michelangelo's Pieta to Klimt's The Kiss. We will take a close look at artists like Chagall, who make love the overreaching theme of their art. What do these depictions have in common? Join us for a lively exploration of how artists see love.
Admission: Free

Management Report As previouly noted here, the County removed the heavy growth, trimmed the vibernum and planted 80 cedar trees along the berm on West Village Drive. Village property management has since trimmed the trees and cut some vibernum lower to allow more sunlight for the new trees. Also, property management has installed a drip line to water each tree individually. A wash out under the Millennium Gardens deck was filled and drains installed, trees were trimmed at the Lennox entrance to allow more sunlight, replacement plants were planted in several locations throughout, and the Avista mailbox repairs/painting commenced.
The Casey Road platforms have been removed which should complete all remaining traffic calming contruction and removal.
Village Re-Branding: The next signs will be fourteen Phase I entrance signs on North Village and Carrollwood Village Run. Fourteen will then be installed in Phase III, followed by fourteen in Phase II, and then starting again in Phase I.Two ponds, one in Phase II and one in Phase III had fish kills due to the freeze. Some fish species that get into the ponds are not able to survive the colder temperatures. Propery management is removing the dead fish from the banks every morning until they are all removed.

The Freeze - Oh My Gosh, What Do We Do Now? Don't prune anything immediately. Wait to prune cold-damaged oleanders and other tropical shrubs such as hibiscus and crotons after they begin to sprout new growth with the onset of warm weather, maybe by late February. The damaged leaves help to insulate damaged plants from frost and further injury. Once plants begin to sprout, be sure to prune below them so you cut in to green healthy wood. The above thoughts and more come compliments of
Kyle VandenBrink, with OLM Inc.
